Cambridge Online is an online venture which seeks to allow graduate professionals to enhance their careers and qualifications to include a teaching certification.

Our Aim:

To allow professionals living and working abroad to complete an online PGCE wherein they receive an accreditation suitable for all Governments and Licensing Authorities.

Graduates are provided with a specialist course during which they must fulfil the requirements of the UK Government's Ministry of Education. Written assessments and in-place, on-location working experiences are taken into account when assessing the candidate for acceptance into the Degree of Post-Graduate Certificate of Education, with specialisations in either Primary (Elementary) or Secondary (Senior) education.

The Degree

The Degree of Post-Graduate Certificate of Education is attained by the completion of written essays and practical experience. As it is not possible to observe each candidate in their work location, we use an honour system wherein some assessments rely on the reporting of classroom or teaching situations. One of our concerns is online safety for students, and so all reports of classroom activity are required to be written in a manner which excludes all possibility of the identification of any individual student or school.

The Specialisations

Cambridge Online offers specialisations in the two main areas of education - primary and secondary. We are able to concentrate in the provision of quality degrees, certified by the University itself, centred upon those two main areas of modern education.

Primary Education

Our course centres upon the ways in which teachers are expected to educate in modern situations. Many of our candidates find that they have either not been in education for many years, are returning to the profession or are newcomers, after graduating with initial degrees. For those wishing to pursue a PGCE in Primary Education, we offer a range of courses based on the Standard PGCE Curriculum which is outlined in detail here. For our students, this also means that the course has more weight given to everyday teaching situations and professional knowledge thereof.

Secondary Education

The secondary education course is much more academically based than the primary. Individual subjects are examined in closer detail and relevance is drawn between the theory and the practice to a higher degree than the primary. Essentially, this concentration on the theoretical allows the secondary candidate to more closely follow the areas in which he or she is engaged, rather than the less specialist primary area. This is as a result that secondary teaching tends generally to be more focussed upon certain subjects or areas of study - such as the material or social sciences. Requirements and Procedures

For those wishing to avail themselves of the opportunities afforded by Cambridge Online, in the first instance contact should be made to the Registrar. Candidates should note that this is a post-graduate course and therefore an initial degree is required.

Candidates should possess a graduate degree in any discipline or any classification. This degree can be a BA, MA or D.Phil (PhD). Other degrees or certifications will be considered upon application.

Overseas Candidates

Overseas candidates must also have access to a good internet service and to a printer. These are required in order that documents may be printed for local authorities or government ministries. Some countries, as a result of humidity or poor services, may only offer partial electricity services or intermittent internet availability. Such conditions are not necessarily a barrier to successful completion of the courses offered by Cambridge Online. The only necessity for the internet is for research and submission of coursework; we deal with many overseas situations and candidates will find our tutors accommodating and flexible.
